A Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) is a designated area for the City to focus its investments and policies to improve, uplift, and revitalize. An MRA Plan determines specific projects and improvements needed to revitalize the area.

The East Gateway MRA Plan was first adopted in 2016. After 10 years, the Plan is being updated to reflect current conditions and a revitalized community vision statement.
The goal of the East Gateway Metropolitan Redevelopment Area Plan (2016) is to make Central Avenue more welcoming to residents and visitors arriving at the City’s edge by facilitating redevelopment of vacant and underutilized parcels and providing for a greater variety of businesses and services that are much needed in the area. The Plan calls for multiple investments and improvements facilitated by the City’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) and is aimed at stimulating private development and redevelopment in the area.
Strategies of the 2016 East Gateway MRA Plan
Public improvements such as landscaping and sidewalk furniture;
Public-Private Partnerships and redevelopment activities to support public transit along the corridor;
Redevelopment of underutilized and vacant parcels and activity centers;
Beautification, such as façade improvements and iconic signage; and
Safety improvements to reduce crime, such as cleaning up vacant properties and installing streetlights that also illuminate pedestrian areas.
